Wedgewood Buildings have an impressive portfolio of oak buildings, and are familiar with meeting the requirements of different specifications. We are flexible and approachable, have an excellent understanding of the development process with many contacts within the industry and are more than happy to guide you through each stage. Undoubtedly the final design will be dictated by your budget and personal preferences; we think it is essential that you are well informed about of all the options before making your final choice. Sometimes, for example, this may mean that the frame is not made entirely from oak but, by making the right choices early on, the best results can be achieved.

We advise that you consult your Local Planning Authority to check whether planning permission for your building project is needed. Some outbuildings and extensions do not actually require planning permission as they can be classed as ‘Permitted Development’ so it is worth investigating what sizes and other criteria are eligible as this could save a considerable amount of money. Wedgewood can put you in touch with well respected planning consultants and architects to advise you on this part of the process if required.

A structural engineering report is a vital part of an application for building regulations. It mathematically describes the engineering issues that are relevant for the building design including the stresses on joints and timbers, the maximum loads different parts of the building could withstand, the fixings, material usage and section sizes. It is regularly referred to during the construction of your building since it will include summary plans of the structural elements of the building and their interactions with each other.

Once you have received your planning approval, it all begins with the design. Our design team will work with you to achieve your objectives. After finalising your design, we progress to manufacture. We will handpick your English oak, which will be processed and handcrafted on site. We will keep you up to date on the progress of your frame and a scheduled completion date. Once your frame is complete, we will deliver and erect the frame. At this time we pass the project back to you, or alternatively we can continue to project manage the process through to completion.
