Glazing
Whether its small glazing panels or expansive panes that showcase panoramic views, oak frames provide sturdy and elegant support for various glass sizes. Recent updates to building regulations emphasise energy efficiency and safety, prompting advancements in glazing technology such as low-emissivity coatings and toughened glass options. These developments ensure that oak framed buildings meet contemporary standards without compromising their classic appeal.
When glazing an oak frame or orangery, the glazing is secured against the frame with the oak frame supporting the glass and the sole plate taking the weight of the glazed unit. Timber packers are placed either side of the glass, allowing space for the oak frame to move without the risk of breaking glass. Air dried oak cover boards are then placed over the top to fix the glazed panels in place and provide the external barrier.
